4/1 Solitude & Focus
Rise and Shine for a new week! Today PT begins to explore how Jesus models a pattern of pulling away to be with God.
REFLECTION VERSE: Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35
Good morning Cornerstone, it is PT and it is time to rise and shine.
Listen, this week I want to focus a lot on the issue of solitude. I was thinking about it because when we closed out the series on John, it was mentioned to Jesus, and was recorded in Matthew 14, that John had been killed. And when it was mentioned to Him, it says that Jesus was very emotional and there was something that affected Him.
And we read about it says, “As soon as Jesus heard the news, He left in a boat to a remote area to be alone.” The first thing Jesus decided He wanted to do upon hearing the devastating news of John was to pull away and to be alone. There's a real principle there. There's a time for us to pull away and to be alone. Jesus modeled this. At very least there are gonna be times when we need to clear the noise out and create space that we can hear the voice of the Lord better.
I love the fact that Jesus had a habit of being alone and listening for the Father's voice. You and I need to develop that habit as well, maybe Rise and Shine is part of that in some small way. But the practice of pulling away so that we can pull close is something that the Lord models.
Even now Lord I ask if that we would take seriously the need to attend to our soul and to tune it in your direction. Help us I pray to listen for your voice, alone, and sometimes in our silence. In Jesus name we pray this Amen.
